Sparking Joy

‘Never work with animals and children…’ does that extend to friends? How about one of your best friends?

Is there anything more flattering than someone close to you asking you to collaborate on a project with them, especially when it’s actually for them? Then the imposter syndrome creeps in, ‘what if I don’t capture what they are after’, ‘what if I don’t do it justice’…

And this project was oh so special to me. Caroline and I started dreaming up possible new ventures over 10 years ago when we were both new mums on mat leave, pushing buggies around Tooting Common each day, fighting off sleep deprivation and adjusting to life off the corporate ladder. We were in shock and trying to imagine our futures in this strange new world we’d found ourselves in together.

Fast forward to the present day and we are still navigating motherhood together - now with six children in tow, living in the same town, doing the same school run. But we both now have our own businesses and we are lucky enough that occasionally we get to work together as well as play together.

When Caz asked me to help bring her natural light, storytelling photography business to life I was elated. Firstly for her as taking the leap and launching her own photography company was a huge, brave step. And also, secretly, a little bit for me - I was so flattered to be asked as she has such a good eye and clear vision for her brand, and she trusted me to help give an identity to her passion project.

The branding and website for Fable Photography ended up flowing easily as soon as I got out of my own head, drew on the fact that I know Caz so well and could imagine what was in her minds eye. It also made me push myself harder and push my knowledge further as everything we created needed to represent and sell her incredible images and visual point of view.

Now, over a year down the line, Caroline has been featured in Vogue Italia, photographed over 200 families on the doorsteps during lockdown and captured memories for lots of lucky families. I couldn’t be prouder of her.

And for me, getting to work with friends sparks a lot of joy.
